Although we have kept sheep for a few years, I’m not going to pretend for a minute that we are expert. I’m not sure if there is such a thing as a sheep expert really - so much comes down to a matter of opinion, in so many areas.
It was a really pleasant surprise just how much joy the sheep are. They are companionable, brighter than you think, stupider than you think(!), excellent grasscutters, and providers of meat and lovely lovely wool.
If we had to cut back on our activities for some reason, I think we would still keep sheep - as for keeping the grass down in the fields - they are probably the least time consuming - but mostly they are just so enjoyable, as they cluster around for pats and scratches.
We currently have a small flock which is made up of Devon Closewools, Sheltands and some crosses.
